Treacle tarts, sticky toffee pudding, and festive fruit cakes, Christmas is one of the few holidays where one dessert option simply won’t do.
Give your family and guests lots to choose from by adding some of these addional treats to your dessert table:
Festive Biscuits
Soft, chewy ginger biscuits are a classic and easy option, and something I make each year for my family and customers. If you’re not a fan of ginger, amaretti biscuits are delicious Italian biscuits are great option to top up your Christmas biscuit tins.
Panettone
Panettone cake is actually a sweet bread that comes in lots of different flavours. I usually purchase mine from Waitrose or Costco, but so far, the Waitrose chocolate chip option is a family favourite. Panettone makes a great gift for your neighbours with all its pretty packaging, and has a long shelf life, so stock up on a few of them.
Bundt cakes
Bring out your cake stands, because you should always have a freshly baked cake on display in the lead up to Christmas. Last year I made a delicious rum cake that was gone within minutes! What makes bundt cakes so great is that they always look amazing, no matter what sponge flavours you choose. Add a glaze or drizzle to your cakes for that extra wow factor. I’m a bit more simple and enjoy my festive rum cake with a side of warm vanilla custard instead.
Mince Pies
Love them or hate them, I think we all end up buying at least one box every year! Again, another item with a lengthy shelf life, if you’re not too keen on traditional mince pies, try an iced one. I promise, you’ll like them a little more! Don’t forget to enjoy it warm with some fresh single cream.
Cinnamon rolls
You can’t beat a fresh batch of warm cinnamon rolls for breakfast on Christmas Eve or Day. Cinnamon rolls are one of the few recipes that I would not recommend buying from the supermarket. They’re not widely sold in the UK to begin with (not the typical American styled ones anyway), but you will see a few pre-made dough boxes on shelves. Unfortunately, they just don’t taste very good and aren’t fluffy like a Cinnabon. I recommend this quick 1 hour cinnamon roll recipe.
Charcuterie board
Always a good after meal option, especially for people who aren't into desserts. I love mine with red wine, lovely chutneys and a good range of cheeses.
Add a final touch to your festive dessert table with a display of festive cupcakes from The Cupcake Avenue menu.
