Why don't you treat yourself to a warm slice of apple crumble this season? Find my go-to easy apple crumble recipe below.
If I had to choose a favourite season, it would be autumn because it symbolises change, both in weather and lifestyle. Shorter days, pumpkin spiced lattes and movie marathons—but let's face it, what would autumn be without baking? The season calls for hearty baked goods with warm aromatic scents to be enjoyed somewhere near a cosy fireplace.
I'm serious about my desserts and have always enjoyed classic American autumn desserts like pumpkin pie, cinnamon rolls and apple pie because they're hearty, wholesome, and utterly satisfying, so I always try and whip up something each year. Tesco's seasonal candy apples are also a treat if you've never tried one before.
When baking apple pies and crumbles I purchase my apples from the supermarket. There are, however, apple orchards close to London for the freshest pickings of apples for true foodies. As for my pumpkin pie, I do cheat by using canned pumpkin puree (view my go-to here) but I still make the rest from scratch. My partner and I also like to indulge in our favorite pumpkin pie from our local Wholefoods (available during the later part of September) as an autumn tradition. We couldn't recommend it more!
Autumn desserts on my food bucket list: I've yet to taste a pecan pie and have only tried a small slice of Patti Labelle's Sweet Potato pie, so I still haven't formed a solid opinion on the great sweet potato vs pumpkin pie debate. Not that I'm unable to bake them myself, but I'd love to try authentic versions first, which is why both of these desserts are high priority for my next trip to the southern states.
Ultimately, apple crumble is the perfect autumn dessert for most dietary needs, pallets and readily available ingredients. Give my easy apple crumble recipe a try.
